Highlights of The 2001 Lagos International Trade Fair

For two decades now, Lagos State has played host to the annual International Trade Fair. This symbolic event, which comes up every first Friday of November is reputed to have become the meeting point of major Local and International Trade and business organisations.

The 2000 fair which was held between 3rd – 12th November at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Race Course, Lagos drew exhibitors from far and near with representation from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) enclave, Organization of African Union (O.A.U), European Unions (EU), Asia, South America, and United States of America.

With visitors exceeding over 200,000 for the ten day event, the fair can be confidently declared successful. The organisers attributed this success to careful planning and most especially to the provision of infrastructural facilities such as constant electricity, water, telephone, fax, Internet services and more importantly adequate security.

The organisers have promised a more interesting Fair this year, which will hold between 2nd –11th November, 2001. Among the targets of the organisers is the attraction of over 300,000 visitors. This is based on the fact that over 350 exhibitors – 45% increase over last year - have already registered for the Fair.

With the spectacular wide media coverage on radio, television and the Internet, this year’s fair is billed to outpace other fairs before it. Indeed, it will mark the coming of age of the Lagos International Trade Fair after two decades of excellence.
