Jim Ovia, MD/CEO Of Zenith Bank, Nigeria became the pioneer President of the Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), a non governmental organisation at the first Annual General Meeting of the body on Saturday 13th of October, 2001. Dr Emmanuel Ekuwen, who was the Vice Chairman of the steering committee became the Vice President of the new appointed/elected executive committee, Mrs. Ray Ekpo became the treasurer and Mr. Femi  Ogunsehinde was elected the Public Relations officer, which was the only post that was contested for, he deafeated two other contestants to emerge the winner.

The newly appointed and elected executives will be in charge of affairs of the organisation for the next 12 months. Mr. Ernest Ndukwe, who was until that day, the Chairman of the steering committee, while handing over the constitution of NIG (which symbolises the transfer of authority) said the new executive committee is saddled with the responsibility of nurturing NIG, which is still a baby to become a full fledge adult. Mr. Jim Ovia later in his acceptance speech, promised to give the body the necessary support and attention.
