SOCIETY MEETING PLANS FOR 2002

Objectives

We believe it to be important to continue with our quarterly meetings, as it reflects our members’ need to network together and to participate in interactive and educative sessions of topical interest.  Other services will, for now, be primarily conducted by email and over the telephone, or through our planned web site

Our main objectives will always be to provide members with a non-sales environment where they may meet in a friendly atmosphere and learn of the latest technologies, products, services, standards and applications in the fast moving world of smart cards.

Format

Meetings will continue to commence at 9.30 a.m. promptly, and will normally end at around 4.45 p.m., followed by an informal reception. We have set out below the planned main theme for each day, setting smart card in the context of the systems and application areas of which they form part.  We shall also devote part of each meeting to the impact of electronic trade on the use of smart cards, and we shall as always include short sessions of standards and other technical matters of topical interest.

Smart cards for

Financial institutions

EMV card deployment is gathering pace in the UK, but what about the rest of the world, and will there continue to be a full guarantee of international interoperability?  Where will banks go with e-purse, will they go multi-application, and will the coming of Visa and Mastercard provide them with a new opportunity to dominate the new world of e-payment.

Smart cards in payphone

And GSM telephony

There is still mileage in payphone cards and in the real estate of payphone devices.  GSM, in contrast, is becoming pervasive.  This meeting will cover both types of telephony and in particular will address new handset technology and software, where this affects smart cards and SIMs.

This meeting will, as always, provide members with a summary of all Nigerian smart card schemes, together with a state of the union address and forecasts for the hot areas for 2002
